Forget the idea of dark, damp, uninviting spaces - today's cave houses are fitted with all the usual up to date facilities! Temperatures can stay at around 17 - 21 degrees inside - providing there is minimal outside build - meaning there is little or no need for heating,
or even air-conditioning. As an example
it was -2 degrees outside at 8am this morning and it was 19 degrees inside with no heating! (30.11.2011)
Whether you are looking for an interesting holiday or short break, wanting to 'test' a cave before purchase, or maybe just spend a few nights in a cave as part of a longer holiday itinerary, cave house's can offer something for everyone.

The nearby town of Galera, with numerous cave houses perched on the hills above, has plenty of Bars many serving free tapas with drinks. There are also Supermarkets, Bakers, Butcher, Banks, a Post Office, Library, Doctors Surgery, Iron Mongers, Town Hall, Chemist, Paper Shop, Museum, Gift Shop, Swimming Pool (open Summer months only), etc... Galera is a very easy 5 min drive away from
La Alqueria.

Market day is on Wednesday in Galera, in the main square by the Church.

Just outside Galera is a fabulous restaurant -El Parador- where you can choose from a good selection of tempting dishes, many cooked on the wonderful indoor
Oak Wood BBQ.
The larger town of Huescar is just 7kms further on from Galera. Market day is Thursday. Huescar has a wider selection of shops, bars and restaurants with beautiful narrow streets and a lovely square to walk around.
The small historic town of Orce with it's old Castle is approx. 8 kms away. Just before you reach Orce, there is a fabulous free swimming pool - less than 5 mins drive from here. An easy 37 km drive will take you to the Natural Park of Maria, with it's stunning forests and mountains. Within the park are campsite and picnic areas.
Around 20 kms in the opposite direction from Galera is Cullar and just a short drive on from there you will find
the City of Baza which is around a 30 - 40 min drive from here, with all usual City amenities. There is a large Car Boot Sale just outside Baza on Sundays.
